At My Renewable Energy we are passionate about our charity work. In 2021 we became a Transformer partner of The Candlelighters Trust and pledged to raise £25,000 every year for the next three years. We recently hit our £50,000 milestone.
We wanted to pledge our support for a local charity and by supporting Candlelighters we are helping them to provide emotional, financial, and practical support to families living with childhood cancer. Candlelighters also invest in vital research to improve the outcome of children diagnosed with cancer.
Each year, around 150 children in Yorkshire are diagnosed with cancer. When a child receives a diagnosis, lives are turned upside down instantly, not just for the child but for their parents, grandparents, siblings, extended family and friends. Getting well again can be a long and challenging journey, emotionally, physically, and financially.
In 1976, a group of parents and medical staff recognised a need for families with children facing childhood cancer to receive extra support. Back then, the prognosis for these children was very poor and it was a lonely world for them and their families. Together, the parents and medical staff started a charity with one clear vision: to bring light and hope to all families affected by childhood cancer in Yorkshire. Today, Candlelighters brings light to families by providing emotional, practical and financial support, and hope, by investing in vital research to improve the outcomes and lives of children with cancer.
From the support centre in Leeds, they provide a safe space for families and children to undertake various therapies and meet others who are going through the same challenges that they are. They visit children’s wards and arrange activities to help keep children occupied during treatment. They also provide home from home accommodation for parents to stay close to their children while they are staying in hospital. Just a few minutes’ walk from Leeds LGI The Cottage is a welcoming place allowing families to stay together at a time when they need it most.
We undertake various events throughout the year to achieve our target. Together, we can make a difference and bring hope to those who need it most. We hold charity events and encourage and support our staff to undertake challenges and events to help raise awareness of the fantastic work that Candlelighters do and to help raise funds to support their various causes. You can find details of the challenges that we are undertaking here on our page. From charity golf days to bake sales and extreme challenges we do it all.
We couldn’t do what we do without the support of our staff, their families and wider community so if you want to join us and help to support Candlelighters, please donate and spread the word.
